REBUILD ROCKAWAY

Do you know the feeling when you are sitting at home watching the news of a disaster that happened elsewhere and you have no control of? Not this time, as you know a major storm - Sandy have hit us here and the hardest part of it all is recovering.

A few buddies and I packed our bags and headed to Rockaway Beach to Drop off some warm gear and whatever we can offer to help the much NEEDED in the Far Rockaways. As we got closer to the water on Ocean Parkway, we reach the Brighton Beach Area of Brooklyn and we started to sense the sorrow. Cars was parked all weird and the windows of the cars was all fogged by, all the cars was washed up from the storm and for the ones who still had any heart left was trying to clean and air out their vehicles.

As we got closer to the bike trail to Rockaway Beach we usually take, there wasn't any trail left. It is all covered with sand and gated off with a Fence. We all had a feeling like, F*CK!! this is bad but it was just the beginning. We all got on the side of the Belt Parkway highway and singled lane along the bike trail all the way down to Marine Parkway Bridge.

We reach to the beginning of Rockaway Beach & Breezy Point and the parking lot where beach goers usually park their cars is used as a DUMP zone. We biked by the residential private houses and it looked and felt like a monster came through and just flipped the house inside out. It was not bike-able, the path was covered with mud and debris from the beach and Houses. It was a awful feeling to see but there is definitely a sign of HOPE and to rebuild.

Words can only express so much, we had to do our part and dropped our donations to the Rockaway Beach Surf Club on B87. We gather ourself and started to head out via the Cross bay Bridge and headed into Queens because we couldn't go the way we came.

I hope you enjoy the photos below
please do your part and help out the much needed people suffering.

(I'm thinking of planning another ride this Sunday Nov 11 to Hoboken NJ, which was hit really hard from the storm also, contact me if you would like to contribute)
