SUNDAY AM RIDE

The temperature been dropping here in the East Coast, it's harder and harder to get up in the morning. This past Sunday 11/25, for our weekly SUNDAY AM RIDE, we wanted to get some miles in as usual and  decided to hit up 9W again but this time the destination is Runcible Spoon, a destination for many New York Cyclist.

As usual, the regulars show up and it was a total of 5 of us including me. Yes it is hard to get up in this cold and actually set your mind to do 60 miles in this cold weather. In the morning of this Sunday it was in it's high 30's and low 40's. It was a gloomy day to ride but once we all meet up we were amped to go. We raked up a total of 60  miles from La Colombe to Runcible Spoon 30 miles and back 30 miles. It was a cold, so I hardly captured any photos.

Nabil is Never Not Riding !!

Cool and Good people is hard to come by, I've known Nabil for a very short time here in NYC before he recently moved to California. My first impression of Nabil is - What? What's your name? oh okay,, yeah that... I'm really bad with names, especially if your not in my phone or communicating with me on a daily basis, lol, I gave up and start calling him BILLY. lol I figured he didn't like it so I started to make some effort in remember his name. Thanks Nabil for the Write up!! NNR Fam!!

More to come from Nabil - a former New Yorker

NNR

Believe it or not I learned how to ride a bike without training wheels when I was two years old. Sadly.. I got it down and moved on to the next thing. I hadn't gotten back on a bike till about two years ago.
At the time, I was snowboarding, that was my thing! Up until two years ago that was my addiction.
And the story begins.

It was spring 2010, snowboard season had just finished; I was sitting at one of my favorite coffee shops, Greogory's Coffee on 24th and Park, when this barista stole my focus away from my laptop.
Time passed and I got to know her more and more, I learned that she road and my curiosity began to unfold. All she had to do then was suggest I get a bike..
A week or so later, I stopped by a bike shop only to look at some bikes and get an idea of what I really want. I saw a nice Baria single speed; test drove it, next thing I know I bought it.

Now, it's was about 7pm, I'm in downtown Manhattan, and have this bike, and I need to get home, 17 miles away. At the time I had no idea that I could hop on the LIRR with my bike, so I saw my only one option, ride home. I hadn't road a bike for about 10years and I got on that bike and road that thing home for 17mi. The adrenaline experienced on that ride home was all it took. I became so attached to my bike that it was all I could really talk about for months. I was using it more than a utility, it became the resolution to just about every problem I had.

I ride now because it is truly the only attachment to so many good things I experienced in life. I have met so many great people through riding that up till this day do their best to continue that relationship though overcoming substantial challenges with a core built on riding. The riding scene has such a great community to offer all over the world. I've been involved in so many other activities, and the sense of communion that riding has to offer is like no other. It seems cliché to say it, but the people involved really do their best to make riding a way of life.

NNR is more than nevernotriding. It’s feeling out of place when you're walking to a bus stop and feeling bored out of your mind while you're on it. It's wondering why you decided not to ride while you’re stuck at traffic light in NYC traffic.

Now I know my story isn't based on a lifelong attachment with riding, but I'm sure I'd be able to tell that story in a few years.

Life's so much simpler on a bike flying down a damp hill at some ridiculous speed without brakes, and then you notice the intersection at the bottom. :p

110 Miles El Tour de Tucson Arizona from Justin

Justin have completed 110 miles on his Mash Histogram in one ride, I know the feeling of finishing 100 miles. It is a great feeling and accomplishment.

Thanks for sharing this with us Justin!!

El Tour from my saddle... The first 80miles was great blazing past roadies and getting compliments on my bike and riding style. Several roadies drafted me for many miles throughout the course. Sprinting up hills past them was a great feeling! After about the 90mile mark I was warn out but luckily had many energy snacks (thanks to my girl) on the side of the road! She gave me so much support and gave me what it took to sprint out the last 20miles or so to the finish! I felt so accomplished finishing it on a track bike and have many people congratulate me for my accomplishments.

Sunday Ride - 80 mile Challenge

Today was a full day of hard riding and sprinting, 80 miles might sound tiring and long for some of you but for us, when you have great company and friends to ride with, the day goes by so quick. Keeping a estimate of 18-20 MPH. Waking up early and getting out of bed while your bed sheets is all warm. who wouldn't want to sleep in and catch up on some rest. not us because we love to ride and hang out with our friends. Thanks for another good ride and time - Mr Kirk Black, Alex, Chris, Daryl, and Darious Rapito.

Right after last week's Sunday ride, we started to plan our destination for this Sunday's ride 11/18/2012. We challenge ourselves to a total of a 80 mile ride. We knew it was going to be chilly and early ride but  that did not stop us, we all love this!! we eat this!! we shit this!! lol  we live for this!! the feeling of almost puking because your pedaling your soul out. ahhh you know that feeling!! NNR!!

we met up at our usual meet up spot La Colombe 270 Lafayette @ 9am for Espresso and out the door and pedaling at 9:30am sharp. In  New York City right now, morning are in its low 40's and by the afternoon it reaches to it's upper 40's, so gearing up and dressing as perfect as possible is so important. You do not want to over dress because you'll be sweating ur ass off like Alex, lol and you do not want to under dress like Chris so he brought aluminum foil for his toes in case lol. Mr. Kirk Black and Darius Rapito came out like Rambo, rocking bike shorts with no knee warmers. I was very happy with my results, I rock my norm suite - Golden Saddle Cyclery bib, MASH jersey, MASH wind vest, MASH defeet arm warmers, Cadence Collection Knee warmers, Shoe cover from Embrocation Defeet Hi Vez for visibility. Chari and CO smart glove (these gloves are great for me because I love pulling out my phone while on my bike and capturing these epic moments).

We headed north toward Van Cortland Park and reach our destination at Kensico Reservoir Dam.
Here is the address if you would like to add this to favorites, 121 Columbus Avenue, Valhalla, NY 10595. Side note, Croton is still my favorite. Nothing beats the feeling when arriving at Croton Dam. here is the address for Croton Dam. Croton Gorge Park, RR 129, Cortlandt Manor, NY 10567

Moments are epic !!

PDL Hard From Sacramento California - NNR

Greetings from Patrick....

My name is Patrick Curley and I ride in Sacramento CA. Here in Sacramento and all of California, I feel we have some of the best bike riding available. Trails that go all over, and country roads and high ways that could be explored all day. I love riding here! Until you get at least 60 miles or so out of town, it is flat, so track bikes rule.

I have been riding track bikes since 2008 and I'm hooked. Even though I own a road bike, my track bike is my go to ride. I recently got a LOW SF track standard frame and it has just made me enjoy riding even more. Whenever I am not in class or at work, I am putting in miles.

I ride for a local track bike shop called Pedal Hard here in sacramento. Here are a couple shots of my bike out on the American River trail, and on HWY 128 to lake berryessa. I will keep more photos coming from here in Sacramento California, enjoy cycling. Never Not Riding!!

Me and my team were top placers in the last Alley Cat here in Sacramento. We are all NEVER NOT RIDING!!
